Detroit is walking distance from Windsor Ontario. You would go from Saskatchewan to Toronto and then to Windsor. They are on different train corridors. See via.ca for more info or talk to a travel agent. p.s. get a sleeper car for at least one night of your trip. it's worth the experience.

I'm not sure I agree that Detroit is "walking" distance from Windsor, especially if you are dragging your luggage with you, but it is really, really close and to take a train there from Canada is a bit convoluted. You would actually have to take a train from Saskatoon to Toronto then go via Buffalo NY, Toledo Ohio and finally end up in Detroit. The travel time from Toronto to Detroit is over 22 hours so that seems a bit silly. Your best bet is to take the train to Windsor and then use Windsor city transit to cross into Detroit - the tunnel bus stops right at the train station. I agree that a sleeper is the most comfortable way to travel by train but the cost is pretty high. If money is no object then definitely get a berth or a bedroom but otherwise it's not so bad to sit up - just take an inflatable pillow, eye mask and ear plugs and do the best you can to get some sleep. It's an amazing train ride!

According to Via Rail's website; a one-way ticket to Toronto is a little over 300$ on April 11th..and it's a 48 + hour trip. Then you'll either have to take a lengthy detour(as noted above) or take a bus from Toronto to get to Detroit directly. This will cost 50-75 $...and a six-hour ride-not counting any border delays. According to flightnetwork.com you can fly on April 11 on Delta Airlines from Saskatoon to Minneapolis, have a layover of about 2 hours, this would give ample time to clear customs, then you get on another plane straight to Detroit and be there in about 7 hours from leaving Saskatoon. This will cost a little over $400 tax and all...by the time you factor in meals traveling overland(unless you plan on taking 3 days worth of food along with you) this would be cheaper in the end...with a lot less hassle.
