Detroit, detroit, such a rational joint, it's worse than Zoetermeer
2 :
There is a train that leaves Detroit at around 9pm to Toledo then you take a bus from Toledo to Rochester. it takes about 12 hours total.

Don't listen to Carlos for he is an idiot. If you go to Detroit, the best place to go is downtown. There isn't much i can tell you about Indianapolis, i have driven past that place.
2 :
Both are great towns and both have a lot to offer. The downtown in Indy is much nicer and the nuclear blast style blight in Detroit neighborhoods is not on the same scale in Indy, so if I were to give a recommendation on a place to live, I'd say Indy. Hands down. Nice people, clean, hard working corn fed folk. But for a visit. ya gotta go to the Motor City. Just for one second imagine the conversations you'll have at work or at a party. "Coming back from Chicago we stopped in Detroit." "Coming back from Chicago we stopped in Indianapolis." What would your friends more likely respond to? "Oh I hear the corn is lovely this time of year ..." Jeeze, pleeze ... ya gotta hit Hitsville, Greenfield VIllage, heck the art Museum will really surprise you. Even downtown is fun if you want to see a big league baseball game of a show at the Fox Theater. All fab, funky and oh so fine.
3 :
Go to Detroit and then to Comerica. ;)
4 :
http://www.visitdetroit.com/ I don't know about Indi, but I've spent my life in the Detroit area, and we have a ton of attractions. The Institute of Arts is absolutely world class and has just reopened after a renovation. It is amazing! Downtown, there are many other museums that are fabulous, several casinos, music every weekend in Hart Plaza, baseball at tiger stadium, shows at several theaters, the orchestra. Outside Detroit, the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village are cool as well as the Ford Rouge Plant tour. North of the city, the Zoo is great. For partying, there are clubs all over, and the casinos have fabulous restaurants and clubs! Check out the visitors site below! We may be ugly as heck (nuclear blast like) but we are a pretty darn cool city. If you are in to cars, then the dream cruise weekend is a must. It is Aug. 15-18th.
5 :
Go to Indianapolis's first, and then check out Detroit, Indianapolis is on the way to Detroit. http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my;_ylt=AurnSPE3FbjZVqTD3Er0ZatQ7hR.;_ylv=3

I live in Windsor - you'll be passing through Windsor on your way to Highway 401 up to Toronto/Niagara Falls. You definitely want to see the Falls from the Canadian side - the Horseshoe (Canadian) Falls are much bigger and are the more famous of the two. You can take a guided tour (with raincoats!) behind the Falls or take a ride on the Maid of the Mist, which takes you up close to the Falls. Distance in Canada is in kilometers not miles. Gas is in litres, not gallons. Be careful on the 401, as they have implemented a new law regarding emergency vehicles. If you see an emergency vehicle on the shoulder of the road you must pass it in the outside (passing) lane. You cannot pass in the lane right next to the shoulder. There is quite a hefty fine for this and they are nailing people pretty steadily. Either exchange your money beforehand or at one of the casinos in Niagara Falls (which will give you the same rate as a Canadian bank). Do not, repeat do not, exchange money at the border exchange places or any tourism places on the highway - they are a ripoff. They have been closing down a lot of service centers between here and Toronto so gas stations are not plentiful along the 401. You would actually have to get off the highway and go a few miles to get gas. Make sure you have a full tank of gas as you head out of Windsor. Well, these are some of the things I can think of to help you out on your trip. Have fun! Oh, and bring lots of money - Niagara Falls is very touristy and the restaurants, etc. are expensive and a rip-off, but it is worth seeing the Falls.

Cheapest way to travel from detroit to boston?

Walk.

Unless you can find an amazing deal somewhere I don't think you'll get a roundtrip from Detroit to Boston under $100. I have driven before, it's about 16-20 hours depending on whether you drive up through Canada or not. I'd suggest driving and maybe seeing if you can get a friend to go along and split the costs. Otherwise, it might be tough to get it under $100.

About what month is the best month and worst month to travel to Detroit

What month is the best month and worst month to travel to Detroit?
In your own opinion, which month would you say is the best month to visit Detroit and the worst month to visit Detroit?
Detroit - 13 Answers

1 :
May-July are the best. Jan-March are the worst.
2 :
Avoid the winter and go in the summer However, there isn't anything really that special there so I would avoid travelling there entirely
3 :
I tend to visit in May time and its not too hot and not too cold. September is also quite nice. From what my friends tell me winter seems to be harsh so avoid November through to April... although like everywhere it can vary. April this year was cold, 2 years ago it was quite nice.
4 :
Is there ever a good time to go to Detroit?
5 :
worst for icy snowy road conditions usually happens in late January - and in February for fall color and comfortable weather- mid October
6 :
January thru December!
7 :
Well, there are a few seasons to avoid. Winter (Nov- April) It is cold. Especially near the river. I mean very cold. This is a good time to go to Florida. Construction (April-October) It is really a pain in the backside to navigate when there is construction going on. All humor aside, I would recommend late spring (May or June) or early fall (September or October). Of course it depends on what you are here for.
8 :
visit any place. there is nothing such as ghosts coz i tried finding one but couldn't. I sat in the cemetry at night but no.
9 :
Best - July Worst - February
10 :
I recommend early spring (May-June) or early fall (September-beginning of October). Otherwise it's normally too hot/humid or too cold/icy. Though, the heat and humidity are great for being in the water, and the cold is great if you're into snow sports.... which I'm not.
11 :
June and July are the best months to travel to Detroit. There are so many events and outdoor activities going on that you won't know which to choose. January and February are the worst. If there was anything fun happening during those months you wouldn't want to go because it is just too darn cold.
12 :
I would say the best months to visit Detroit is during June and July because there are many activities and special events that go on during this time. January is also a good time to visit for the North American International Auto Show. The worst month to visit is between February and March because there is not a lot of activity that goes on in the city.
13 :
The best time to visit Detroit would be mid-June to mid-July. Beautiful summer weather for walking, biking, hiking or going for a sail. The Pistons, Red Wings and Tigers will all be playing. Outdoor concerts and festivals all over the place. Worst time would have to be Mid-Jan to March 1. Winter is in full gear. Never know how could it might get. Stay home.

About what is the best way to travel from Detroit to Key West

What is the best way to travel from Detroit to Key West?
My wife and I are thinking about taking a vacation in february or March to Key west. What is the best (and cheapest) way to get there, and what are the best ways to travel? Should we fly the whole way, or fly to Fl and take a boat? Is it cheaper to fly earlier or latter in the week? Any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

If you're going to drive there, take I-75 all the way down to Miami, then take hwy 1 to Key West. I think airfares are cheaper at the beginning and middle of the week. I don't know anything about boating.
2 :
When I went to Key West a few years back, I flew on Spirit from DTW into FLL and then rented a car and drove to Key West. It's only about a 4 hour drive, but this way you can see all of the Keys - well worth the drive!
3 :
I would fly the entire way. You can fly into Ft Lauderdale or Miami, but be prepared for a long drive down. It is a 2 lane road and can take about 5 hours at times. Or you can fly into Key West or Marathon. Flying into Marathon would be nice, then you could drive the rest of the way and still have a nice drive through the keys without it being too long of a drive. have a great time, Key West is one of my favorite places to go.
4 :
By plane.
5 :
Mid-week to mid-week usually offers cheapest fares to anywhere in the Florida area (Wednesday to Tuesday). I didn't do too badly Sunday to Wednesday for my next trip. It seems like if you avoid concentrating yourself around Friday & Saturday nights you'll save. I found, a 1 stop airfare as low as $360 per person round trip on orbitz for a Wednesday to Tuesday (stopping in either Atlanta or Miama). But you'd go right to Key West. You could fly non-stop from Detroit to Ft. Myers, FL for $175 per person then take the Key West Express boat for $128 per person round trip for a total of $308. Another option is to fly into Miami (non-stops are as low as $180) and take the Key West Express boat for $102 per person, for a total of $282 per person. Here's the boat info: http://www.keywestshuttle.com/rates.htm I've taken the Ft. Myers-Key West & back route and it is a lovely trip, but it takes 3 full hours. The nice thing is that when you book, you tell them what day you will be returning. This would allow you to stay a night or two in Miami or Ft. Myers (if you want). If all you want is Key West, I say go direct, pay a little extra on airfare, have 1 stopover, but you probably won't need a rental car once you are on the island! If you would like to see Miami or Ft. Myers areas, then it might be worthwhile for you to save a few dollars on the airfare and take the boat. The cost difference is not that huge that I would recommend you do one or the other.

About With heightened national security, what id is now required to travel from Detroit to Canada and back

With heightened national security, what id is now required to travel from Detroit to Canada and back?
My husband is traveling to Detroit with my son and has a couple of days without much planned. He thought they might drive up into Canada, basically just so my son can say he's been to another country. They would be traveling there and back in the same day. My son in 7, so he doesn't have i.d. - will he need some? Will my husband need a passport, or will his driver's license be enough?
Other - Canada - 5 Answers

If you drive, at this time, you only need drivers lic (or photo id) & birth cert for exit and re-entry. Your DH might as well bring his passport anyway though, as it is a federally issued doc. I also bring a letter from my spouce authorizing my son to leave the country w/o me. Just in case! See below: Passports Required for Air Travel to United States as of January 23, 2007 The Departments of State and Homeland Security announced today that the requirement for citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere will begin on January 23, 2007. This change in travel document requirements is the result of recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission, which Congress subsequently passed into law in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. These new travel document requirements make up the Departments' Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). In order to obtain national security benefits as quickly as possible, and to expedite the processing of arriving passengers, the plan will be implemented in two phases. The first phase involves travel by air and requires all citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer's identity and nationality to enter or re-enter the United States from within the Western Hemisphere. The final rule for the air phase of the WHTI rule will be published in the Federal Register on November 24, where it can be viewed at www.regulations.gov . That rule is also available on the Department's consular web site, travel.state.gov and on the Department of Homeland Security's web site, www.dhs.gov. A separate proposed rule addressing land and sea travel will be published at a later date proposing specific requirements for travelers entering the United States through land and sea border crossings. As early as January 1, 2008, U.S. citizens traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea could be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. The Department has dedicated additional resources and personnel to meet the increased demand for passports generated by these requirements. In Fiscal Year 2006, the Department issued a record 12.1 million passports to American citizens, and anticipates issuing 16 million passports in Fiscal Year 2007. U.S. citizens can find information about how to apply for a passport at travel.state.gov or by cal
2 :
It is now required by the Federal Government that if you as a Citizen or otherwise leave the United States of America and come back to our borders you must have a US Passport or a visa from another country that will allow you to reenter the United States. No other ID is acceptable. I mean NO othe ID.
3 :
The correct answer, with a source linked here is this: Photo I.D. and proof of citizenship is required to cross the border, esp. back into the U.S. Your son might be able to get over with just a birth certificate ... AND a permission from you, since you aren't going with them. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
4 :
Your son will need an official birth certificate (NOT a baptism certificate...it needs to be issued by the province) and one other piece of photo ID (such as a health card) to travel across the border. In addition, you will need to provide your husband with a signed letter stating that you give permission for him to cross the border with your son. You should also prepare your son for the fact that the border guard will ask him some questions ("Is this really your daddy? Where's your mommy? Why isn't she coming with you? Where are you going?"). I've known families that have had serious problems because the kid clammed up or got confused! Your husband can still cross the border with government-issued photo ID and a birth certificate, but be warned that starting January 1, 2008 everyone needs a passport.
5 :
You only need a passport if you are flying into or out of the us or canada. If you are driving you will need government issued ID. As for your son a birth certificate should be fine. You can call and ask the border if you will feel better about it. You will also want to send a letter with your hubby so he doesnt have any problems. If you call the border crossing I suggest that you call the US side as well as the Canada side. they may have different rules and regulations. One of my coworkers when to the states with another family when he was under age, and all he needed was a letter from his parents and his ID. Good Luck, and have fun.

That depends upon what sorts of things you find interesting. For example, if you're driving down I-75, you could stop at any of these places: Wapakoneta, Ohio- The Neil Armstrong Museum honors the first man to walk on the Moon. Chattanooga, Tennessee- The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee Aquarium. Atlanta, Georgia- Stone Mountain, the World of Coca-Cola. These are just a few possibilities.

Hi, I want to travel to Detroit from SFO frequently, could you please help me with the economical way for this. I dont mind going in train, bus, flight etc also any near by airports is also fine. And I travel almost once in 15 days, your help is much appreciated. Regards, S

greyhound is probably the cheapest way to go. but if you're flying, oakland airport is generally cheaper to fly in and out of.
2 :
How much time can you afford to spend traveling? Amtrak will take several days, and I assume the bus will also take several days. Either way, you are going to be sinking a lot of your time into traveling, and even if it is cheaper than flying (Amtrak is usually the same or even more expensive), not being able to work for several days may not be worth any savings you are getting. I would suggest getting familiar with hunting for bargain air fare. There are websites where you can get great deals on last minute flights, but you will have to be flexible about layovers. Also, look at Oakland and San Jose airports too, to expand your options. If the uncertainty of a last minute flight isn't for you, you may want to opt for a frequent-flyer program, if these still exist. As a frequent flyer, you will be booking flights on one airline and earning points with them that you can use in the future for free flights.
3 :
The train is the most expensive way to travel. The bus can really add up in cost. The airfare route, with a frequent flyer number and a credit card that awards you double frequent flyer awards is best. Southwest Air just announced an entire slew of flights at much lower costs. A number of airlines have run to match. Your best bet is to sign up with a site like Orbitz or Expedia, and research their lowest fare. Then, go to Southwest Airlines site and see what their pricing is. On SWA, if you book 30 days in advance, you can usually get a flight for as low as $39 one way. SWA does have flights in and out of SFO, but the hub is Oakland. Most folks in SF prefer Oakland as it is way more convenient. There are shuttles between the airports as well. Happy Trails!
