The cheapest way to get to Chicago, without a doubt is going to be by Car. I drove to Chicago which was 4 1/2 hours from Detroit in Half a Tank of gas on my car. I have a Honda. Which means you dont even have to stop really all the way till you reach your destination, its fun and do able. Megas Bus is also an option, its cheap and it will take around 6 to 7 hours, depending on the driver and the amount of stops the driver or the majority of passengers feel like having. Train can also be a bit expensive. If you want free parking and your going from Downtown, go into the Greektown casino which is open 24/7 and park there, no one will do or say anything. I parked there for a weekend and came, its pretty nice. Plus, if you want more tips, search Detroit to Chicago on Yahoo Answers, a lot of items will pop up, this is a much travelled root for people in Detroit and Chicago and a lot of questions have been asked, as per distance, fastest way to get there and cheapest way to get there. Have Fun.

just fly... it's so much more convenient. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

I always take the megabus to Chicago. I go to Ann Arbor and take it from there.
